Contributive Steps Undertaken By TNW for the Relief & Early Recovery of Flood Victims

During the month of August year 2010, Pakistan faced worst devastation of flood in its 80 years history. Approximately 20 million people, about one-ninth of the population, have been displaced by the disaster. Rough estimation shows that more than one-fifth of the total area of Pakistan has been severely suffered from the devastation of flood water. As many as 74 district of the country have been badly hit. According to the survey Report of Punjab Flood Relief and Rehabilitation (PFRR), around 15, 00,000 livestock and 1, 48146 acres agriculture land including watercourses have been severely affected and the vulnerable population is totally at risk because of leaving in shelter less situation and having no source of proper income or livelihood.

Early Support to the affectees

Keeping in view the gravity of the situation, TNW first of all focused its attention in Ditricts Layyah & Muzaffargarh and provided the following support services in terms of Food Items (FIs) and other basic needs of Non-Food Items (clothes, shoes, blankets, kitchen wares, mattresses, school kits and hygiene kits) for the flood affectees in coordination & assistance extended by Turkish INGO, DENIZ FENERI (Light House Association). Relief goods of worth $ 1,691,474 were distributed among more than 11,000 families of Layyah and Muzffargarh districts.
